Indicative Content
|
The students will develop business skills and law for the film and TV industries. Learning will focus on the necessary business skills needed when looking for employment, as well as the legal knowledge required for filming.
In the course they will gain knowledge of:
1. Business/Finance including self assessment and Schedule D accountancy, plus rates of pay for production crews and technologists.
2. Budgeting ideas for filming.
3. Law: An overview of defamation; copyright, privacy, and Health and Safety to be used in pre-production/when filming/in post production.

Learning Strategies
|
12 lectures and 12 practical sessions. 1 x 1hr lecture. 1 x 1hr practical (1:n)2 (1:35)1
The practical will support the lecturing session. The practical sessions will support the underlying knowledge and skills required to complete the module and with be facilitated with booklets, handouts, case studies, Internet resources and guest lecturers. Group discussions will also take place in these sessions.

Prospectus Information
|
The students will learn the fundamentals of Business and Law essential for today's employment in industry. The module is also aimed to be an adjunct to other Film Technology courses. The module will cover self assessment taxation versus PAYE; union membership; rates of pay; how to get a job; and basic legal knowledge necessary for filming.
